The Bell Block Spatial Plan - We're Underway

New Plymouth District Council is kicking off the Bell Block Spatial Plan, a major piece of future planning that will shape the next 30+ years of investment, growth, and infrastructure for the Bell Block area.

Early next year, as part of the wider Puketapu-Bell Block Community Board Plan process, we’ll be coming out to listen to you — through surveys, drop-in sessions, and community conversations.

Why does this plan matter?

The Spatial Plan is more than just a document. It’s a roadmap for Bell Block’s future. Here’s what it will achieve:

  • A Clear Vision: The plan will set a clear direction for the future of Bell Block— one that everyone can understand.
  • Investment Confidence: It will provide certainty needed to guide long term and sustained investment in Bell Block.
  • Local Ownership: It will be shaped by the community of Bell Block and will be designed to deliver your aspirations.
  • Tangible Actions: This isn’t just about ideas. The plan will focus on practical steps that deliver benefits to the Bell Block community now and into the future.

Citizen Panel Expressions of Interest - Help shape the future of Bell Block

In addition to talking to the community to help shape the plan, NPDC is creating a Citizens Panel to help shape the future of Bell Block through its spatial planning program. Joining the panel is a chance to influence how Bell Block looks, feels, and functions over the next 30 years.

What is required from the panel?

  • Members will take part in three workshops between February and May to provide advice and recommendations that guide the design and opportunities for the area.
  • The panel will include a diverse mix of community representatives and work collaboratively to refine ideas for growth and development.
  • Members need to be open-minded, consider different perspectives, and align with Bell Block’s long-term vision.
  • While the panel plays a key role, the wider community will still have opportunities to share feedback.
  • All recommendations will go to New Plymouth District Council for consideration.

This is an exciting and meaningful opportunity to be part of the team that actively shapes and informs outcomes for Bell Block.
