Local Alcohol Policy
We’re reviewing NPDC’s Local Alcohol Policy. We want you to have your say on the sale and supply of alcohol in the New Plymouth District.
A Local Alcohol Policy helps guide the sale and supply of alcohol to:
- Minimise alcohol-related harm.
- Reflect community preferences.
It can include rules about:
- Trading hours.
- The number of outlets in a given area.
- Where outlets are allowed.
Your feedback will help inform any changes to the existing policy. This review is about when and where alcohol can be sold. We currently have a joint policy with Stratford District Council that takes a consistent approach across both districts, while still addressing local issues around alcohol sales in each district.
Our survey should take about 10 minutes to complete and it will close on Monday 16 March 2026.
If you'd prefer to provide feedback by email or in person, contact us at:
- submissions@npdc.govt.nz; or
- phone 06-759 6060.
Once the Mayor and Councillors approve a draft policy, it will be put out for public consultation and open to further feedback.
NPDC’s Alcohol Control Bylaw which covers liquor ban areas (when and where alcohol can be consumed in a public places) will also be reviewed later in 2026.
