State Highway 3 (Eliot-Coronation streets) is our main road to Inglewood and the south, used by 14,000 vehicles every day.

Peak hour coincides with kids arriving at NP Boys High School and the traffic grinds to a halt every time someone wants to use the crossing.

We need to fix the rush-hour traffic snarl-ups and make a safer crossing for school kids at the SH3-Rogan St intersection.

We’re proposing traffic lights at the intersection to keep the traffic flowing and make the school crossing safer.

Traffic lights will control pedestrian movements and end the stop-start-stop traffic flow over the uncontrolled crossing. They’ll also make it easier for traffic moving into and out of Rogan Street, especially when the Tūparikino Active Community Hub is up and running.

We’ll also close off Cameron Street on SH3 to stop dangerous rat-running and make a safer school bus stop.

We’ll move the bus stops on the New Plymouth Boys High School side to the south to make way for the lights.

The bus stops will operate from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and will be available for public parking outside these hours.

There will be some reduction in carparks to accommodate the safety improvements.

Please see the Proposed Design document for all the proposed changes.

Feedback closes at 5pm Friday 18 April 2025.
