NPDC is reviewing its Solid Waste and Minimisation Bylaw as required by the Local Government Act 2002.

The purpose of the bylaw is to promote effective and efficient waste management and minimisation in the New Plymouth District and ensure that waste collection and disposal does not have significant environmental or health impacts, by regulating recycling, ownership of the waste stream, waste storage, waste management and collection.

Minor updates have been proposed to the existing bylaw that are mostly administrative and aim to improve the workability of the bylaw for regulators and users. These updates are shown in the Proposed Solid Waste and Minimisation Bylaw 2026.

Give us your views below on the Proposed Bylaw. Submissions close at 5pm on Friday 10 April 2026.
